Evolution
Copyright, Mary Rachels
I’ve always believed that we
(the animate hominie)
Were formed of dust, Wonderfully made
Received of God the breath of life
Had both a physical and spiritual nature
Were limited in years and knowledge
And had mortal bodies
Now some supposed intellectuals
Would have me believe
That we evolved
From some ape-like creature
The hypothoetical, speculative
Not practical or applied assumption
That we once swung by our tails
From some alien tree
And plucked lice
From our playmates hair
Shatters my amour-pro-pre
Or would
If I believed it.
